Suspended & Revoked License

Chicago, Illinois, Suspended/Revoked License Attorney

For most people, the ability to drive a vehicle is an absolute necessity in order to earn a living and conduct other daily activities. Whether you have been arrested for DUI or charged with a “minor” traffic ticket, your driver's license may be under threat of suspension or revocation.

At my practice, the Law Offices of Robert Kerr, I work to prevent the suspension of my clients' driver's licenses and to restore those licenses that have already been suspended or revoked. Call me at 312-955-4400 or send an e-mail to arrange for a free consultation.

Prevent License Suspension and Revocation

The Secretary of State may suspend or revoke your driver's license, or your ability to obtain a license, for many reasons:

  • Were you arrested for misdemeanor or felony DUI?
  • Were you arrested for driving while your license was suspended or revoked?
  • Are you charged with reckless driving, drag racing, or other moving violation?
  • Are you facing a third traffic violation in a 12-month period?
  • Are you under 21 and facing a second violation in a 24-month period?
  • Did you fail to maintain insurance?
  • Were you involved in a traffic accident?
  • Did your vehicle fail an emissions test?
  • Did you fail to pay parking tickets or traffic tickets?

Failure to respond in the right way can jeopardize your ability to maintain your driving privileges. As an experienced DUI and driver's license defense lawyer, I understand the procedures of the Illinois Courts and the Secretary of State's office and what needs to be done to protect and recover your ability to drive. Wherever possible, my overriding goal is to obtain dismissal, reduced charges, or court supervision in lieu of conviction, which protects your status with the Secretary of State and your Insurance company.

In a case involving a DUI suspended driver's license for example, I can petition the court to rescind the Statutory Summary Suspension, or in the alternative, issue a judicial driving permit (JDP) that can enable you to go to work, school, and/or doctor's appointments. These are available solutions before we even go to trial.

If you have been arrested for driving while your license was suspended or revoked, I will determine how and why your license was suspended or revoked, and I will work to restore your driving privileges. A conviction for either of these offenses may result in a criminal conviction, jail time, and/or additional years of suspension or permanent revocation.

Reinstate Suspended and Revoked Licenses

If your license has already been suspended or revoked, act now! Reinstatement of a suspended driver's license can be a complex and involved process in Illinois. The Law Office of Robert Kerr will determine if prior judgments against you may be vacated, or if you are eligible for a Reinstatement Hearing with the Secretary of State.

The Law Office of Robert Kerr represents clients in Administrative Hearings with the Illinois Secretary of State's office. If your license has been revoked due to a DUI conviction or other reason, you must demonstrate to the Secretary of State that you have successfully completed any alcohol treatment or driver programs required, and answer dozens of questions about your alcohol use and other subjects. I can explain to you the best way to answer these questions and advise you how to comport yourself. You must answer the questions yourself, but I can accompany you to the Secretary of State's office and provide you with support and guidance through the process.

Commercial Driver's Licenses

I also defend the ability of holders of commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) to drive and practice their professions. Illinois law as it affects CDLs is much stricter and more complicated than for regular licenses. I will assertively represent you with the aim of protecting or restoring your license.
